Suffolk County Sea Glass Festival
This community event was held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 11-4pm. The day invited visitors of all ages to explore and celebrate the world of sea glass.
Inside the museum, there were presentations on sea glass identification with Mary McCarthy and presentations on antique bottles with George Wm Fisher. Museum education staff taught a drop-in sea glass pendant workshop and the museum was open for viewing the exhibitions on Long Island's history. In addition, children could participate in a glass-themed scavenger hunt around the museum. Outside the museum were artists and vendors selling creations made with glass and sea glass. The Long Island Antique Bottle Association provided antique and vintage bottle appraisals. Throughout the day, attendees listened to sea shanties performed by The Royal Yard. Families with young children could visit our backyard patio for kids crafts that were included with general admission. In our picnic area, attendees could enjoy their meal and snack purchases from The Big Black Food Truck . From 11-3pm, attendees submitted sea glass finds for our Shard of the Year contest (see below for photos of the winning pieces). On view in our museum window is a stained glass art exhibition, By the Sea, curated by Colorful Visions, Art and Glass Studio. This exhibition will be on display through Aug. 15th, 2022. We are thrilled to say this first time event was a huge success! Thank you to all who attended and supported! Stay tuned for details on next year's event....coming soon!

Creating artwork by using the locally sourced materials I have collected and the hand-painted watercolor backgrounds have been a therapeutic outlet during the COVID-19 pandemic." Of the many fond memories I have of the Puerto Rico, one I cherish the most is getting up in the early morning and combing the beach with my mother to find sea glass and pieces of pottery." |
