SAFE BOATING COURSES

The Whaling Museum is hosting Safe Boating Courses for all participants age 10 and older. Learn the essentials of safe boat operation, regulations, and responsibilities of boat ownership to receive your boating certificate.
This course meets the New York State education requirement for the Personal Water Craft Operation Permit, Youth and Adult Boating Certificate.

Details & Registration

Certificate Info:
Upon course completion,  students receive a temporary safe boating card valid for 90 days. Students aged 18 and above need to send the completed form and a $10 check to NYS to obtain the permanent card (course instructions will guide the process). Individuals under 18 receive the permanent card automatically without any fee. Please note that the delivery of the permanent card may take up to 90 days.

Ages:
Registration is open to individuals aged 10 and above. For minors (students aged 10-17) participating in the course without a parent or guardian, parents or guardians must complete and sign a parental permission form during drop-off. Minors are strictly prohibited from leaving the museum without a parent or guardian, and it is recommended that they bring a bagged lunch.

Cost:
The program fee is $35, and it includes access to exhibits.  Payment must be made when registering in order to reserve your spot.

Lunch Break:
Student participants have the option to bring a bagged lunch for the lunch break. Cold Spring Harbor village offers lunch options such as Sweetie Pies on Main and The Gourmet Whaler (a 5 minute walk or .2 miles from the museum) and the Cold Spring Deli (a 10 minute walk or .4 miles from the museum). Minors are not permitted to leave the property, including during the lunch break, without their parent or guardian; no exceptions will be made.
