The Bedlam Street Bash was held on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 7-9pm in support of the Museum's education programming. Thank you to all who attended and donated to make our end of year fundraiser a great success!
The event took place at The Whaling Museum. Throughout the evening attendees enjoyed the best tastes of Cold Spring Harbor's Main Street - once nicknamed Bedlam Street.

Did you know Main Street in Cold Spring Harbor was once called Bedlam Street?
Photo of Main Street in Cold Spring Harbor
The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Company had a fleet of 9 ships and when one came in from a long trip hunting for whales and filling up over 1,000 barrels of whale oil, the street lit up with whalers, sailors, travelers, friends and families. Shops were ready with food and drinks to serve. Merchants would welcome the healthy dose of spending.
The Whaling Museum’s Bedlam Street Bash celebrates the lively and rambunctious spirit of Cold Spring Harbor village when the whaling ships came into the harbor and the whalers and sailors went out on the town for days and nights of indulgence.
Join us for a celebration of the bedlam that took place back then and helped to build what is now the quaint and adoring village of Cold Spring Harbor.
