Scrimshaw
When on a whale voyage there would be time between each whale sighting, it could take months to see a whale. Whalers needed a way to pass time on the ship, since they lived in cramped spaces and it would be easy to have cabin fever. Whalers decided to take whale teeth and carve drawings. These drawings were memories of loved ones and what they saw during their voyage. See more...
Tools
There were many tools that the whalers used during their voyages. They used harpoons to hunt whales. Sometimes whales would get away with the harpoons in them. Other tools that were used were boat spades, this would be used to scrape away blubber. Blubber would be boiled in a big cauldron to make sperm oil and candles and other paraphernalia.
